solid surfacing

‘shape and colour’

Today, solid surfacing is available in numerous multi coloured bowls, sinks and flat panels, which we can shape and seamlessly bond together using colour matched resin adhesives. The joints created are exceptionally strong and virtually invisible, giving the appearance of a surface that has been formed from a single, solid material. This monolithic structure allows designers to create imaginative and practical work surfaces and shapes that need not be limited by standard panel dimensions.

Solid surfacing has the appearance and feel of polished natural stone, yet it is relatively lightweight. Using tungsten carbide tipped woodworking tools, we can machine the material to form an infinite variety of shapes.

Although immensely strong and durable, acrylic based solid surfacing is surprisingly malleable when being thermoformed. With this capability, we are able to form complex curved shapes, enabling the designer the freedom to create truly unique decorative components. In fact, design can be fun again!

Solid surfacing also has a beautiful choice of plain colours, granite and marble designs; and that beauty is not just skin deep. The colourful designs run consistently throughout the thickness of the material which enables us to create imaginative and detailed edge profiles, cut outs and grooves without any loss of the chosen solid surface colour or design. Inlays of contrasting coloured solid surfacing and other materials such as polished metals can also be incorporated into the surface to produce striking decorative effects, including logos and lettering.

And if solid surfacing has not already fired the designer’s imagination, it also has a translucent quality which allows fantastic illumination effects to be created with the use of back-lighting.

So whether your project needs reception desks, wash-basin units, column cladding, shower cubicles or indeed any component that needs a unique style, colour and shape, then solid surfacing fabricated by W H Foster & Sons Limited is the ultimate specification.
